Don't Mess With 911

It seems that our small-minded CC's are trying to use the 911 system to undermine our sheriff. DON'T EVEN THINK OF THIS!!
We cannot stress enough how very critical 911 is and how keeping it local is to our advantage in so many ways.

Having one local call center to accept incoming 911 calls keeps mistakes to a minimum, has much less chance for error when only
one phone call is needed rather than one to call and another to relay that information. A local 911 call center also has the big
advantage of quicker response time, more knowledge of area where the help is needed as well as being less costly.

There really is no advantage to having another county receive the calls, none. In fact it would drive costs up, result in more
mistakes and slower response time. It would not reduce jail staff as dispatchers would still be needed to answer 911 calls whether
coming from another call center or coming directly from those in need of help.

We have been charged a fee for quite some time already for this service so our county ought to be ready to begin this service
without even more monies. What has been done with those monies already received CC? So far the only results we have seen
are those the county has been forced by law to follow, such as the rural addressing signs etc.

Chuck has an excellent article in today's SOTA detailing the jail's county contributions to date. Just click the

SOTA link

It is a pity how much 5 commissioners can mess up a county with their "get-even" attitude. Give us a break! Leave our sheriff
and jail staff alone and let them do the fine job they have been doing. Maybe with the deposits from the jail that Vince & Chad have been
giving to the county we can accomplish this 911 transition without even more money??

I had heard Horton was snooping around about that also. Roberts county waited a long time to have a up to date 911 service now we have one so leave it alone. It was up to date when they moved into the new jail and our dispatchers do a great job. We citizens done some checking too. It would cost more to move it out of county. Horton sit all nite with dispatchers so he seen that one cant do it. Start downgrading the county and see how long contracts and extra money lasts. Quit looking at the Sheriffs staff and jail to cut corners. You 3 idiots want to ruin our county and send us back to the dark ages. Knock it off!!!!

A proven point in Grant co. that 911, through Watertown, delays response times and that Watertown dispatchers have no idea of anything in the county. Some of the funds collected on phone bills was spent on street signs but then again our auditor has never divulged how much collected or how much spent so us taxpayers have no idea of what might be left of these funds and where they wound up. Probably general fund again. Leave it alone!!

Read where the 3 polocemen killed in PA did not know there were guns involed when they went to scene. 911 dispatcher did not relay that to police dispatchers even tho she knew. Prime example why relaying law enforcement calls is dangerous to the officers!!!! Wake up commissioners Roberts county is becoming more crime rideled every day. We need our 911 here. If the local paper would get on the ball and report the crimes the public would know whats going on. The good ole boys want to hide their head in the sand and say no problems here!!! Why is our jail filling up???? Oh my that is a place for criminals!!!! There are gang problems, drugs and other illegal activities going on in Roberts Co. Wake up!!!!!!

Above post is very true I saw thar on the news. Why would any county (unless they were very small) want to give their 911 to another county??? I can't beleive the size of ours would be concidered farmed out!!! We need some county fathers that know about things not 3 of what we have. Roger N. wanted in to help his friends up here on drainage, thats well known by us that love up here, Hull is on every board he can get on and has been for years so he can brag. Hes had people convinced he was doing something but now they know better and Horton was hand picked by Buck and Hull to continue the rempage on the Sheriff. Thru our meetings of all districts getting together we have put it together and now are working as a team to clean up our county offices. Oh theres still some good ole boys out there but we far out number them and will prevail when all is said and done!!!!!

sorry about some misspelling in last post but I am angry about whats going on and went to fast!!!!!

In case no one knows it the commissioners can cut Sheriffs budget but they can't tell him who to cut. He still runs the Department and jail no matter what Horton says and you can beleive he is not going to put our county in danger by cutting dispatchers. Our county is being run by 3 idiots who just don't care care about us. The new 2 can't do it alone but I do give them credit for really trying!!!!! Jim

I'll put this here as I want people to see it. Sheriff Vince Owen was honered with 3 more native american men as Warriors for overcoming adversity in their lives and careers.US commission of Civil Rights regonized them at a meeting in Sioux Falls. Many dignitaries including Mayor Dave Munson were there. We certianly know Sheriff Owen with stood a lot his first 2 years. He was accussed, under cut, back seabbed and bribery was even tried and he perservered. We are very proud of you Sheriff!!!!! You are definitly a great warrior for your tribe and our county. Was,is and always will be GC

Way to go Vince, I always have been honored to call you my friend. I'm just sorry you have had to endure so much at the mouths of some of the commissioners. Keep up the great work. You and your co-hort Chad will be around way after those 3 are gone and forgotten!!!!! And of course the Sattlers, Dawns has to go cause its the only way to get her husband out of the mix!!! Sorry about that but what comes around goes around!!!!

I was there for the honors given. It was breathtaking to listen to these men, their beliefs, there lives and all that they had overcame and some still dealing with adversity. I was so proud of our Sheriff and very honored to call him him my very good friend!!! Discrimonation comes in many forms as I too have faced it. I have that in common with Vince not to long ago we both went thru a episode of it!!! But those 4 men have grown tall and stroner from it all. God Bless them. Claudia

Where 911 is concerned I will go with what ever our Sheriff says. He is the one who knows what is best for his office and the county. He has shown me he knows what he is doing. I did'nt know the man and still have not met him but many of my friends have and i've heard nothing bad about him. Hes went thru hell with some of the commissioners since he came in and has with stood it all. That shows a strong committed law man in my book. He has my vote for as long as he wants to stay in. We have someone in mind that will beat Horton and Hull out hands down. I'm ashamed of the one from my disrict!!!!!!

I agree with last poster, we learned at pur last citizens meeting that the main reasin commission Horton and the other 2 want to send it to Watertown is to cut Sheriffs dispatchers and for no other good reason. They are so D--- dumb they cant figrue out you need that many anyway. Also checked cost and it would not I repeat would not save money. So what ever Sheriff says I go with it. But at this time lets leave it alone.

Why couldnt Roberts Co. become a regional office for 911 in the future??? We have countys around us that we could service??? Any one asked the commissioners this??? I'm going to ask Sheriff, hes the one that would tell you the facts and truth.

The 911 issue is interesting. It would offer us some items for officer safety, but in the long run I think it should come down to more than just the commissioners or the sheriff's office. I think people should voice what they feel to the commissioners.

I myself think we have a few issues we need to discuss.
Also, for the month of march, the sheriff's office contributed $11,639.07 to the general fund.

Great revenue Sheriff, also excellent idea of doing what the public wants. Has any one bothered(commissioners)to talk to ambulance crew or firemen??? We the majority that have been having meetings on this and other county issues want it to stay here. But since when have they (the 3 dipsticks)cared about what we want. We are sure happy to hear you do Sheriff!!! Thank you.

I beleive it should stay here. The 911 system is important to our county. We are a big county not Webster as Horton seems to think. I was in a business when he was saying thet our jail could be run like Day county. What does he think this is a no crime county. We are going to see if we can get another paper to print about crime in Sisseton because the courier don't. That way people will know how hard this Sheriff and his crew work.We need all the staff there and 911 in our jail!!!!!!!
