Things must be settling down as it has been a month since a post was made. That is a good thing. No comments is not. We must have SOMETHING to discuss?
How about just who are those who applied for the RC Sheriff position? Wouldn't it be nice if our commissioners would announce who applied for this position? And announce it before they choose someone so the voters could participate in the process by their input? Just a list of names and set a date where input could be given before they go thru the hiring process? Just maybe there are among us some who might know something that would be relevant, something that might not otherwise be brought up? Wouldn't it be nice if we, the voters, were INVOLVED in the hiring this time?
The way it was worded in this week's Courier that process may well not take place until next year. Sounds like they are leaving themselves a lot of "wiggle room" there.
Comments anyone??

I was approached by a friend Sunday and asked if I was one of the 14 applicants for RC Sheriff. I almost gaged. Then I really gaged when I read fromer RC comm. Voeltz's commments in the Watertown PO. His comments could easily be classified as "stupidity" plus he never mentioned anything near the truth of why both Gary and Vince resigned. A typical RC commissioners comment, lie to all and do just what they want to do. Louie Voeltz is gone but his mouth still works.
Maybe the "crimimal element" he was referring to are the comissioners that have caused the last 2 Sheriffs to resign ??? Why are we not supposed to know who the applicants are anyhow? We darn sure know who they are when they run for office. I suspect the 3 have some plan already but are just trying to figure out how to put it into action.
I see the Courier has it that they have "narrowed" it down to 4 applicants now.
I wonder how many are current and how many were hand-picked and waiting for this opportunity??
I agree with the previous poster on the pre-made plans and will be watching to see how it all plays out....
mr. dartman vince never told anyone why he resigned. unless you are a phsyic. how do you know why vince quit. and voeltz only talked and did what was good for the county. your comment makes you sound stupid not others.
i'm glad you never ran for sheriff. you would never made it in that job.
so you should just shut up about things that you don't know anything about.
First and foremost I have talked to Vince and do know and understand why he quit.
My friends question of appling for sheroiff's position was a joke. I have no background in law enforcement and no reason to apply. Besides who would want to be in that position with the CC's we have in RC. Someday they will learn that the sheriff's office is an elected office and the only control they have is his budget.
And I really question you comment that Louie only did what was best for the county. How about his paved road? the 8 million dollar jail our grandchildren will be paying for? And I could go on.
Trust me, I will continue to express my opinions and have the guts to sign my name to each and every one of them unlike some other gutless people.
One further post for today. I hope they hire McClelland so he can kill 3 or 4 other people or the city skunk man so he can shoot up the hospital again. Besides he, Dawn, Kay & Hull are all in bed together.
Bob
Anybody with questions as to just why Vince resigned can read his wife's post under
"Sheriff Owen is OUT!"
If anyone knows just exactly WHY he resigned I guess Brooke should!
Remember to use common sense and good manners here. Mud slinging usually dirties the thrower most.
We have enough drama with facts in RC without dragging in hysterics.
i heard one of the finalist pulled his app out erlier this week. smart move on his part.
What scares me is if someone good is picked it seems he will be cruxified on the blog before he or she has a chance to prove themselves. Granted there are some who should not be sheriff and I know a couple that were there before. we know who they are.I personally know a couple of the guys who applied are good friends of Vinces and they have a lot of experience and he wishes them luck.We have to give whoever it is a chance. Its a job that has a lot of stress and we need to try and help them for the betterment of the county. It will be evident soon enough if they can do the job or not, whoever it is.Election is only a little more than a year away.
I think we are all adult enough.....most of us anyhow...to let whoever is picked for sheriff have the chance to prove he is capable for the job.
I think most of us want to see a sheriff picked for his merits, not because he is a "yes man" or worse yet...a "good ole boy"
I hope that the commissioners decide soon who will be the new sheriff. And I hope they make the right choice for the people of Roberts County. It is my understanding that one of the applicants has been working as a reserve officer for several years. Now who would be better than that as a sheriff. He already knows the county and the staff. I'm not saying that someone else couldn't do the job but come on let's be logical and start to think logically. Hmmm wonder if the CC can do that? Guess it's beyond me. Will just have to wait and see.
I think I have talked to that guy he is the one with gray hair. I tlaked to him right after vince resigned and he said he has been there seven years and on his seventh sheriff 4 elected and 3 appointed. He said he started with Neal long as a partime deputy and then transfered to reserve status an upaid position, which I told him he was nuts. But he said he really liked it here. He has worked almost every Friday and Sat night for seven years.I didn't asked if he was married or anything personal just about the job.He seemed like a real nice guy.He said he works with all the other depts and does training with other agencies. He answered my questions.Maybe if someone knows him they can ask more.
orville folk is the guy i think u are talking about...good guy dont think he is certified though.
Neil Long was sheriff for 28 years and was never certified. He brags about it all the time at the legion.
I hear that a new sheriff has been appointed, namely Jay Tasa. Not only is he not certified, he knows nothing about the county. Also, why would an uncertified, unqualified person be offered $2,700 more to take the position.Especially when the commissioners keep touting that the county is broke, and Gary Gaikowski was not given more money because the commissioners said he was not certified. Apparently the last name of someone carries more weight than qualifications do.
If you think this county was going to hell in a handbasket before, you haven't seen anything yet. I hear that one deputy has already quit, so you should be able to see the handwriting on the wall.
The people of Roberts County should be making their voices heard in the next election by voting out the current commissioners, if for no other reason than the current commissioners have never had the best interests of this county as their first priority.
If Neal Long wasn't certified and brags about it, well, he never did anything anyway. The only thing he was capable of doing was carrying around a brief case full of junk to fool the people of this county into thinking he really did do something.
The people of this county should start going to the commissioners meetings so they can witness the full stupidity first hand and at its finest.
Instead of just complaining on this blog, the people of this county need to make some noise and force changes in how the commissioners run things.
Just remember, uncerified, unqualified, and $42,000 a year to run the county into the ground.
If thats all true then we need to get somebody to run against the newly appointed sheriff. If this is the guy from the port he is a good buddy of Croymans.Just great just when we didn't have to deal with Croymans in the county we get another just like him except this guy is even more clueless. What was wrong with the officers that work at the sheriffs office why didn't they get the chance. Just recieved a call and was told the two officer that applied were only offered $40000 to work there. But Tasa was offered$42700. what the hell! All he has ever done is weigh trucks. O I really feel safe living here now.Well prepare for things to go to sh@t now. O what great commissioners we have looking out for us.They all need to go and fast before something bad happens.
What do you mean before something bad happens the commissinioners just appointed an unqualified clueless person as the sheriff to protect us.I am leaving the county this place is a joke and getting worse. Jail will be run into the ground in 6 months just watch.
It is the one from the port. You are right, he is good, at weighing trucks.
I don't understand how the County Commissioners could turn and slap the Deputy's that applied in the face the way they did. This county is going down fast and now we the workers of Roberts County Jail staff have to train a new Sheriff on how it works. This is very unfortunate that they just want to see the county fail so bad. All the commissioners want is a YES man i guess they got what they wanted... The rest of us can just sit back now and thank them for ruining what was built to help protect our community.
I wonder how many of the EMPLOYEES will stay and try to train someone with no Law Enforcement Traning of any kind.
Also to have him learn how to deal with public on saftey issues and dealing with the kind of calls that come in.
Roberts County is the 7th busiest County in the State of South Dakota. We need someone with some training to be able to deal with all the calls that come in.
We have a Deputy that was Acting Sheriff he didn't do anything but sit in the office. He didn't do a damn thing to improve anything and thats when it started to go down hill fast.
Now they give to this guy who has no clue on how to run a Sheriff Office.
I'm curious what does this guy think the sheriffs job is. Can he handle domestic violence calls, fights, fatal accidents go to a family and face them and tell them a family member was killed. Can he serve eviction papers on a family with kids.A sheriffs job is no walk in the park unless you hand the work off to the deputys and you sit on your ass.I feel sorry for this guy he don't have a clue what he just stepped into.He should have asked to come out and observe the working of the jail. From what I understand Hull wanted him and would not consider anyone else.Hull even raised the wage for Tasa because he said the wage was to low. From what I understand one guy could have walked right into the job without missing a beat. Now Jay can't be on the road he has absolutely no training not even certified to carry a gun.I feel for the employees at the jail Vince and Chad had it running fairly smooth as I understand it.
I can't understand why the commissioners want the jail to fail so bad. They are the ones who wanted it. Now they hire some clueless person. Maybe this tasa is a nice guy but I would be willing to bet my pitiful wage that he don't have a clue in what is involved with the job. This county continues to be a laughing stock of the state. When the Hell are we going to quit ignoring this stuff and do something about it.God this is another sad day for Roberts county.
I understand that Tasa had to take time off from work because he was stressed about gettin the job. What the hell is goin to happen when he takes over.O my god he don't have a clue.
I feel sorry for this guy its obvious he has no clue what the job involves. I think our great leader Hull blew smoke up Tasa's butt.Does Tasa realize that he can be voted out next year and then be without a job. Dont he have a family and small kids. When is he going to spend time with them and do the job the way it's supposed to be done.Again Mr. Tasa you don't have a clue about what it takes to do the job.
I understand that the county has exactly one deputy working for 106 straight hours-how safe do you feel now?
So much for gettin certified officers to come and work here. There not goin to work for someone thats never been in law enforcement. There is a trust issue between officers and you have to earn there trust. Again here we go being the laughing stock and comsidered a bunch of frickin hillbillys.
How Sad.
I wonder if the new Sheriff has even been in the jail to see what it is like. How can you get hired for a job and not even come out and meet your employees. The right thing to do is meet with everyone. I hope that he has a back bone and is able to stand up to the COMMISSIONERS and employees that think they run the show.
I also hope that the Sheriff will give credit to those that deserve it. Also eliminate the ones that can't do there jobs.
It seems alot of you have made up
your mind that he can"t do the job
give him a chance. the problem seems to be more with comish then
the sheriff. some of you do not even know who jay is.
olddog
Who he is doesn't matter, what matters is qualifications and experience. Seems he is lacking in both.
Smile Pretty KELO LAND WILL BE ON THEIR WAY!!
NEW SHERIFF IS ON STRESS LEAVE FIRST DAY!! Intelligent commissioners, DUHHHHHHHHHHH!!
Yeah the one who didn't get hired has saved the county so much money. He worked almost every weekend for 7 years and no pay. How many thousands of $ did he save the county and all I ever heard was he don't even live in Roberts county. Did anyone ever take the time to ask him his intentions if he was hired. I understand he had a house in Wilmot he could rent. I don't know Mr. Tasa but can he say he has ever saved the county thousands of $. And does his wife realize that he will have to go to 12 weeks of training within his first year to become certified. I really think Mr. Folk should have been given the chance he knows the county and the employees. Come on commissioners wake up and smell the roses. I don't ever want to hear anyone of the cc say anything about the county being broke again when they can up the salary of someone just starting or I might have to go to a meeting myself and that would not be a pretty site.
Howdy dufus',
Well partners get ready to be the laughing stock of SD. You can weigh cars and be a sheriff if you have your hand and no brains and are partner up with the Commishes. However, the idiot your are replacing was a real gem too. 23 and got to wear Acting Sheriff and thought his job description was Barney Fife's from years ago. Talk about stupidity, poor county tax payers are paying for all this damn foolishness of the County Commissioners. People stand up & be heard from, the people need to say NO to those idiots that are running your tax payer dollars in the ground. $42,700.00 for a starting wage are they kidding me. The guy is not certified, not sworn in as a cop, & has already taken leave, because of stress. This ought to be interesting within the next few days or weeks. All depends if the new guy likes to have brown for the color of his nose.LOL!! Kiss butt & your in. A 23 year old ran the show, and how many walked off the job. I hope the ones that left know how to handle this show. LAWSUIT, comes to mind. Many are behind you. I for one am not happy that my taxpayer dollars are being spent so foolishly. Anyoone have a U=haul left, I for one will be leaving this county. And never ever say, I'm from Sisseton home of the Unbrave!!!
I talked to pierre about law enforcement training and standards. If you have a reserve officer he has to complete 100 hrs of class training and 320hrs of training in the car with a certified officer before they can be by thereself in the car or make arrests. And we now have a sheriff with NO training No experience and he is supposed to protect this county.God help us all.He has No idea what this job involves.
It's pretty bad when people are putting down the acting sheriff when they don't see all that he has to do. When he is in the office all day sitting on his butt. He is on the phone, going through mail, making money deposits, dealing with the counties problems while at work and home and other various office work.
It sounds like the people downing the acting sheriff are people from with in the agency. We know which ones they are. They whine every time they don't get their way. Thay are to scared to talk to the guy about their problems so they go behind his back and try to make him look bad.
When its funny that people know about the deputy leave right when he did it and even before he did. Thats pretty chicken sh@t that none of them people had enough guts to tell the acting sheriff whats was going on. It seem that they liked to keep him out of the loop so they could cut him down and bash on him to everyone.
The acting does all he can, but this county would never of been happy. It seemed that alot wanted to be a boss but they don't what comes with the job.
Hear that the acting sheriff is willing to help out the new sheriff. Hope there are more willing to do that. The ones that aren't to bad for you.
Hell the acting sheriff was smart for pulling his app. If this is what people are pulling now. What would they try to do to him when he was in full time.
I see my name has come up on the blog so I am going to respond. My name is Orville Folk I have been a deputy here for 7 years. 5 of those years unpaid working every weekend.I was certified a state reserve law enforcement officer by the state of SD on june of 2001 after having completed my training.I started with Neil Long on July 21, 2002 and have been here ever since I like the area and people.I am now going to be working for my 8th sheriff in 7 yrs since coming here 4 elected and 4 appointed.I keep track of the hours for the reserves and in one summer Myself and another reserve saved the county over $10,000 dollars.I interviewed and told the commissioners how they could run the jail and treat it as a business. How to save money on gas for transport vehicles and to quit spending money on the vehicles with 200,000 miles on them what had to be done with employees. How to make it run smoother.I told them I had a house to rent in wilmot and intended to sell my house in Milbank and move somewhere in Roberts county. My kids are are grown up and gone and the wife was on board with this.I plan on staying on and working with tasa to try and help.I don't think Mr.Tasa has a clue what he just got into. But the commissioners decided he was the better choice.I guess we need to move forward and try to make this work.Yes I was disappointed with their decision but lets move forward. And yes I was told the pay was $40,000 but Hull called on Tuesday and said it was $42,700.I just hope I don't wind up working for sheriff #9 in a couple of months because it is a very stressful job.If anybody has a question for or about me just ask. Orville Folk
Orville if you are willing to give this guy a chance maybe we all should.
Why would anyone give the "acting" sheriff any information, since all he does is talk behind everyone's back.
If i was the "acting" sheriff I'd do a lot of back talking too. Most of the staff up there are a bunch of whiners and troublemakers. If the sheriff's office is so bad than hit the road. He has enought issues to worry about, setting his staff straight on a daily basis SHOULDN'T be his #1 priority!
Since when is the "acting" sheriff in charge of his staff? He has a supervisor for that. How would you know what goes on at Sheriff's Office, unless you are the one that works there? Sounds like you are the whiner. Issues come with the job, if you can't handle it, then you have the wrong job.
Ok its the commissioners fault here, not Mr.Tasa he applied like a lot of other people and the commissioners thought he could do the job. I am willing to give him the chance to see if he can do it.It will be double hard for him because of no experience and not being in law enforcement. But we all had to start somewhere although Robts co. isn't really the place to do it. If anyone to blame its the commissioners in not really doing there job and looking out for the county. So lets aleast give Mr. Tasa the chance. There is some good people still at the jail that can help. Orville
I whole heartedly agree that it is not Mr. Tasa's fault what has happened and he deserves a chance to prove himself. The commissioners are to blame for not appointing a candidate who not only knows the county, but has the experience to perform the duties of the sheriff's position.
I don't think any here is trying to put Mr. Tasa down or make things more difficult for him. I believe we are just trying to make the point that once again the commissioners do not have the best interests of this county as their number one priority, and for this they all need to be replaced in the next election.
If the people of this county want to have a voice in how things are run, and if they want to make a difference, then they need to find good, qualified candidates for the commissioner's and auditor's position, and then get out and vote for them.
Also people need to attend the commissioner meetings to see how things are handled there. What you read in the Courier isn't half of what goes on at a meeting. They are open to the public.
Demand an accounting of how your tax dollars are spent as well as the money the county takes in from the jail,911 and other sources. Anything that is public record the people of this county have a right to see.
For god's sake give the man a chance. He's smart and a hard worker, he can do the job.
Wow! We have a lot of experts on here. I love how many of you say that he "has no idea what he's getting into." Why have you run a Sheriff's office before??? Neil is that you??? Nope don't know how to run a computer... Rick is that you?? Nope driving a truck somewhere. Vince is that you??? Nope crying how he always get's picked on somewhere to one of his girlfriends... No one know's what is takes, me included, so stop acting like experts and give the guy a chance. I'm behind Orville on this one, just give him a chance. And if you all know everything why don't you get off the computer and come to the meetings??
What a bunch of know-it-alls. Orville would have been good but give Tasa a chance. He has lived here his whole live and knows the county well. Thanks Orville for sticking in there and giving Tasa a chance.
For the guy looking for the U-haul I think everybody would pitch in to help move your stupid ass. IT's people like YOU that make Sisseton the laughing stock of SD. I'll help you pack.
Well what a mess we are in 1 more time, Claudia we trust in you and commend you for going to meetings but the 2 commiss you said we good turned out to be just like the rest, they all voted for Tasa. Now they need to be out too they are just as stupid as the 3 idiots. Law enforcement have to trust each other and how can we trust a man with no training and cant even carry a gun!!!!! We are aplalled of the choice made but then Commiss always do the opposite of whats right. As for you that are bashing the acting sheriff are right up there with the commiss for being stupid because we do trust Travis and know hes got our back if we run into trouble hes a good man and sheriff. Lot of us have worked with Orville, hes always there for you and goes above and beyond what is ask. Tasa could have checked with a officer that had served in the co or called Vince to see what it entailed, so he starts out dumb a suckup to commiss and not trusted by other agencies. By the way we know its the trouble makers in the jail staff bashing Travis (hes great) how do we know ? Some of us have been in the building when you were doing it. Keep going to those meetings Claudia, we are waiting for the next report on what they screwed now!!!!
Lets see if you know who is bashing Travis then why don't you say who it is are you scared of something? If he is so good at his job why did he pull his application out of the running? If your sure you have your facts straight why don't you print your name?
Travis pulld hos app because his dad had a stroke and needs his help now. Travis had noone to cover and as a responsable sheriff he stayed and done his job, couldnt go to Soiux Falls Hospital. He showed responability. But fanily comes firsy as iy should and he knows some times its 24/7. Sheiff has to cover if no one else can, Travis did a hell of a job just ask States attoney or a ommiss!! And no im not afrays of any of u idiots. Wheres your name??? Besides his Guards Unit may be deployed in the near future. One commiss said he had alot of respect for Travis for coming and giving very good trasons for pulling it!!!
Can't argue with stupidity, you and Claudia. Wow, what a team.
I believe that we should all give Mr. Tasa the chance to prove that he can do the job. He has taken alot on coming to the Sheriff's Office. I for one will be there to help with whatever I can. Everyone just needs to be supportive.
Kristy
Wow, All you people are saying sign your name, but yet you won't sign yours. Double standards seems to be the way all things are run in the county. As far as Travis the acting sheriff, he is too young for the job. Orville would of been the one left in charge. You have no idea, unless you worked with Travis. His scheduiing was way off. One officer worked 3 days-24hour shifts in a row. But the commissioners liked paying the overtime. True, Mr. Tasa needs to have help. But there were at least 2 qualified officers that could of done the job. The new guy needs to go to the Police Academy and learn how to be a police officer. I think Roberts county is in for another rough go.
I believe our labor laws need to check into these stupid 24 hour shifts, I think it is illegal to make a officer work so many hours in 3 days. As far as being afraid to talk to Travis, he knew it all. Not look at the mess this new guy is coming into. Travis new what he was getting into as acting sheriff, if he couldn't handle it he should of got out. He didn't even know he had to have his new officer sworn in by a judge, after Ben completed his education at the Police Academy in Pierre. He thought he could swear the guy in. He definitely doesn't know what he is doing, and as far as talking to him, that's like talking to a brick wall, he (thinks) he knows everything, but his vocabulary is uneducated and he needs to be gone anyway.
Orville good luck with your endeavors with this new sheriff. You certainly have the education and experience to help this new guy out.
Pat
I dont know Mr Tasa, Ive heard both pro and con. Any one that knows me knows I draw my own opinions. I beleive every one deserves a chance. Hes walking into a tough office only time will tell if he can do it. Travis was trained by the best(Vince Owen) so I know he will be great help to him as will Orville. Claudia
Ok I need to stop this rumor now.I was working last night and had people saying that I was mad and quitting. I was disappointed that I didn't get the job,not mad just confused on what the commissioners were thinking or wanting.I am not going anywhere I said it before I like it here.So please everyone when someone tells you I am quitting please set them straight for me I am NOT mad and NOT quitting.I am not that kind of person who pouts around and quits when things don't go my way. Orville
Thank you Orville. A lot of us have known and worked woth you over the yrs and we know you aew a great LE officer. Rumors are a from a deputy we also have worked with and who does this where ever he leaves. We know the bot about Travis has his name on it. He always does this cause he cant be the biggie where ever he is. We all likw Travis and fully support him. A couple of us seen him and "sick" dispatcher at dairy queen the day he quit. Also see the other whinny dispatcher who says she has a serious healtg problen out drinking so whats that tell ya??? If she would stay home and take care of her self she'd be better. Will we miss him?? No Do we feel sorry for or beleive what the whinny ones putb out there? No Orville and Trav have out full support. Theres some good people on staff at the jail no matter whet department and the trouble nakers will lose and be gone people loke that have a history of burning themselves as the one has many times.
All you so call friends of the guy you said was at the Dairy Queen. I have listen to all your back stabbiing about Travis, now that my son is gone you take the knife & dig it into deeper. And as far as dispatchers, you have one alone that use to work for the tribe but just liked to gossip too much and was let go, she really had alot to say to people about all of you that were doing your backstabbing gamed. I was taught walk softly and carry a big stick. Will see who ends up on the bottom of the pile shortly. I may be from the old school & don't know much about texting messages, but there are some really good ones on file with the right person. I wish the new KID on the block alot of luck. Because there definitely too many trying to run the show behind your back. Good Luck.
Pat
I just heard a comment at coffee this morning that the reason the commissioners appointed Tasa is they can control him and finally get rid of Chad Ward.Ok what is really going on here this is getting nuts. Mr. Tassa i hope you are reading this because this is what you have to look forward too.Good luck sir.
Whomever posted this: "A couple of us seen him and "sick" dispatcher at dairy queen the day he quit. Also see the other whinny dispatcher who says she has a serious healtg problen out drinking so whats that tell ya??? If she would stay home and take care of her self she'd be better."
My family might drink little but we can spell, and I like having ice cream when I don't feel well. It is no surprise to me that this world is getting to be such a crumby place to live when people are so callus, demeaning, insensitive to those (which include some of you talking trash) that have major illnesses. It just blows my mind that you can sit there and be happy with yourselves for putting others down and pointing out what you think is wrong with them when you don't even deal with your own issues. What gives you guys the right to be so cruel. Whatever happened to the golden rule treat others as you wish to be treated? Or

So if saying these things and treating others this way is how you view yourselves, well than I saddened by that...for your sake And I will keep you all in my prayers, because you obviously need them.
My, aren't there a lot of people in this town who have nose trouble.
You know nothing about the dispatchers that work at the Sheriff's Office, except for the rumors that a mean and spiteful person is spreading. If you feed off of as well as spread this trash, you must not have much of a life.
As for the deputy you are talking about, if I was in trouble I would want him to have my back. I would trust him with my life, as I would Orville, Ben, James or Isaiah. He is an excellant law enforcement officer. Do we miss him, hell ya!!!
As for the dispatcher you are should so maciliously maligning, maybe you should be the one to stay at home and take care of your business instead of everyone else's.
Since when are the medical issues of any one person subject to public scrutiny?
Rita
First off, I would like to apologize for the "I can spell" bit, that was not very nice of me.
I just want to make it clear that I do not work or live in Sisseton, or even in South Dakota for that matter. I can only respond to what I see on here and it hurts me just as much as it would any of you if people (or a person) were saying hurtful things about someone you love and care about, especially family.
Well I see that someone would like to make this personal. I will take this time to set the facts straight.
My name is Kristy Voller and I am a Dispatcher here at Roberts County. I do have an illness its called Multiple Sclerosis not that I need to share that with any of you.I will not sit back and allow you to talk about me without responding.
As I read the blog I am noticing more and more how confidentiality at the Roberts County Sheriff Office is lacking. I am making that statement for the fact of my Medical Issues being brought out in this blog.
My personal time is my own and what I do is my business, and not anyone elses.
So now if you would like to still talk about my business let me know and maybe we can have lunch.
Kristy Voller
Woot Woot!
No one at the Sheriffs office told me a thing about yout illness Miss Kristi you did your self and yes in a bar. So know whet yoy are saying. Dont be blamong others for your actions but I should expect that as you alway have. Wish you the best in getting well anyway. But thats totally up to you I have a friend that has MS and he does well and has had ot for yrs. Yoi are told to avoid alcohol completly!!!!!
I think some of us are losing sight of the issues here & cluttering it up with personal jabs.
To some extent there is a tendency to get negative about certain persons, but it should be kept within the realm of the discussion at hand.
I believe we have gotten a new sheriff who may or may not be easily led by our CCs. At least that is what they have tried in the past and it seems is what led the list of qualifications this time around as well.
That is the issue here, not personal slams. Please keep it civil.
First of all when you work for the tax payers you are under scrutney Is that right? Probally not. We dont live on a right world we live in a real world. Any one connected to a public office loke the Sheriffs office ots a 24/7 thing. Thats called life and any on us in that field or other public ones as I am you know that and live accordingly out of respect for you job and co workers!!!! So dont do and say things to embarass your job. Dont whine out and about you are sick and picked on at work then go drink more than one of us around have heard you and a couple of others. It reflects back on them all and there is some top notch people up there. Im from another county but we are up there alot. We hear plenty out and about but not about the solid workers about the ones out talking themselves. Hear nothing inside. Do look in the mirror gal. Theres whos talking!!!!!!! Porky
Good Luck to the new Sheriff in town. By this blog you should be able to tell, that there is definitely employee problems among this staff. Attacking people about health issues, alcohol issues, etc. Please lay some of these things aside when you take over. And do the great Honors of Local, County and State Police Officers and Protect and Serve.
There are a few good workers left in this agency, however, there are a lot of them that need to be reprimanded for their attitudes and insubordination. I'm sure you will your handsful. And with the Commissioners that have been your friends Good Luck. There are snakes in the grass at all times, about the time you think things will run smooth, someone throws a monkey wrench at yu.
Good Luck!!
A concerned Citizen of Roberts County!!
I don't live in Roberts county but I do work in Law Enforcement it is a medium size dept and when we think things are bad here we look in the paper or the blog site.Makes our problems seem like nothing at all.If I understand right the current sheriff quit a couple of months ago?The commissioners took applications for the job and interviewed some people. It looks like there were applications from officers that work in the dept. already? But the commissioners skipped over them and took somebody off the street with NO law enforcement experience at all and gave him the highest law enforcement job in the county?Do they really expect the officers to stay? What a slap in the face.So evidently you can be a ditch digger and be friends with a commissioner and become a sheriff. You people in roberts county need to call hollywood to make a sitcom because you can't make this stuff up.Please keep it up it is entertaining. Lots of luck to everyone there.
We need a special election to replace commissioners at the same time we vote NO on opt out!!!!!!!
Also have a Sheriffs election and let us tax payers pick our own Sheriff. We pay the wages and the present commissioners wont listem to us!!!!!!
As for the ‘confidentiality’ issue at the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office- this could be stopped if the policies for the jail were followed. Unless you work at the RCSO, are a county employee, or are in the custody of the jail, you do not belong in the dispatch, jailing area, reception, or the deputies’ room. If you are there for a service of some kind, you need to be escorted to where you are going- and escorted back out. As for the free medical advice, are you a doctor? I’d like to see your credentials. Leave the RCSO employees alone- what the employees do in their free time is NONE of YOUR business.
Hey dont blame us who have never been inside the jail door for what some RC jail employees say at the bar. Right your free time is yours so leave the problems in there and quit running down other good people from the departments in there!!!! You are your own worse enemies!!!!
Hey dont tell us tax payers its none of our business we pay for the jail and you. Can you spell or know what the word professional means!!!!!!We wonder what we are paying for. Donald
Too bad that small minded people are only concerned about what RCSO, (not that you could be expected to know what that stands for), employees are doing on their personal time, instead of being concerned about the real issues at hand.
hey douche- everyone else brought their personal stuff on the table. and for the other person up there saying you pretty much "pay for them". NEWS FLASH slavery was abolished a long time ago. i bet if you worked there you wouldn't want you skeletons and dirty laundry aired out for the world to know. how about instead of clogging this "BRILLANT" blog with all the nonsense lets get back to the problem at hand... jeez i already forgot what it was
Last post shows the intelligence of some of the staff. Sad We need a Sheriff to come in and clean up the mess starting inside here. I do agree tho lets stay on the subject. You cant argue with stupid, when others are experts at it. Lets give Tasa a chance.
If you want the commissioners removed, then get your petitions, get them signed by registered voters, and get it on the ballot. You have six commissioners to remove. If they refuse to listen to reason or do things using common sense, then they derserve to be removed. One is just as ignorant and stupid as the other. The way they run things anybody standing on a street corner could be appointed as sheriff.
I hear Padilla was Hulls and Hortons 2nd choice!!! Whats that tell ya!!!!!
How many times are the deputys going to get slapped in the face.First they get slapped in the face because commissioner pick a unqualifed, no law enforcement experience guy(no offense Mr. Tasa)and then Hull puts in the paper Tasa was best man for the job. What about the hard work and training, and qualifications of the deputys that applied.I applaud you guys for staying .I would have told the commissioner to pack it in the ass by now. Please stay at the job maybe the voters can do something here and get rid of commissioners and get somebody in the sheriffs office that knows what is going on.Come on people why are we bowing down to the unholy 5 they need to start hearing what the people are saying and do whats right for our county.I for one am tired of being the laughing stock all the time in the paper and on TV.
Im with above poster. I was palled when I read Hulls commett. That man should be locked up on the loony bin for the stupid. Word is they (some voters)have a well known certified man thats willing to run in 2010. I too say no offence Mr Tasa but you are being used by those jerks to further their agendas. Being a Croyman fan is detrimental to you. Dawn and The dirty H's got their BOY!!!! Cant you see that???
ATTEND COMMISSIONERS MEETING AT 9 OCLOCK TOMARROW 2ND FLOOR OF COURT HOUSE LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. LETS TAKE OUR COUNTY BACK THE RESIDENTS DESERVE BETTER!!!!!! THE BEST MAN HULL? THERE WERE @ ROBERTS COUNTY DEPUTYS ONE HAS GIVEN YOU JERKS 5 YRS FREE SERVICE!!! KNOWN AND RESPECTED IN THE COUNTY BY THE PEOPLE AND LE AGENCIES> WHAT FOOLS YOU ARE TO FOLLOW A STUPID CHAIRMAN!!!!
If I understand the tone here Mr. Tasa is a friend of croymans. I thought we were finally done with croymans. Is he going to be at the jail telling Tasa how to run things.Croymans is not liked at the jail. Will Tasa hire him as a deputy? Then we will be back to croymans and will he hire Mclland as deputys?God we have got to do something this madness can't continue. we have to start to take control and try to stop this.
Yes Croyman and Tasa are friends who along with Hull and the Sattlers got him to put in. I feel bad for him (Tasa) he dont have a clue!!! And I agree its enough, Croymans is not liked as the Chief of Police either and knowing him of course he will have his nose in the jail. Its true you can tell alot about a person by who their friends are!!!!!!
I feel bad for the deputys.Croymans has caused trouble everywhere he has been.Looked at what he caused at the jail while he was there. He hates everyone,I feel bad for him to be in that constant state of mind. Mr Tasa do your self a favor and distance your self from him. He was friends with Vince until Vince would'nt do what he wanted and then he turned on him. He snuck around behind Vince's back talking to commissioners trying to get vince in trouble. He almost ruined Ken Bucks business by lying to Ken and getting him worked up.Then he talked the female deputy into filing a bogus law suit. When that did'nt work he threw her under the bus. From what i have heard he won't talk to her anymore. Then He moves on.He's friends with you until you won't do want he wants then will back stab you.Mr Tasa I feel for you because I think someone lied to you about the job. With no experience it is going to be a big problem. You need to work up to the position not start at the top.Croymans lost the election and has been looking for a way to get back into the county. Please watch your back. From what I hear you are a good man and a good father. You are involved with the community. The job is not really family friendly. Please make sure this what you want and are ready for.We have not had the best of luck lately. I wish you the best of luck you're going to need it.
Removals of officers not subject to impeachment. All officers not liable to impeachment shall be subject to removal for misconduct or malfeasance or crime or misdemeanor in office, or for drunkenness or gross incompetency, in such manner as may be provided by law.
I need a favor from someone going to the meeting tomorrow.I can't get off work to go. I don't know any of the guys who applied but i have a question for Hull. I understand two of the guys had experience to do the job,one has absolutely no experience in law enforcement. That is the one that was chosen.I would like to know why he was chosen. And not just because he lives here. That is not a good reason. What was wrong with the other two guys. Are they bad deputys. Are they people who should not be working for the county. We need a very good reason why he was chosen. The paper said best man for the job I want to know WHY he is the best man. Please hold the commissioner feet to the fire. We have the right to know why the decision was made the way it was.I wish I could be there but can't please someone asked the question.
Word on the street is that the newly appointed sheriff hasn't even been to the jail to see how things run or meet the other people who work there. How does a sheriff perform his duties if he can't carry a gun, stop people for speeding, or drunk driving. Does the position mean sitting in an office everyday taking phone calls, or serving papers? Does "community" mean just the town of Sisseton? Hmmmmm.......
I heard in Wilmot last night that the newly appointed sheriff is going to hire another guy from the port as his deputy. Now we will have a sheriff and a deputy with absolutely no law enforcement experience. What the hell is going on.I am saddened by the events going on. The commissioners have no respect for the county or the citizens that live here. How can you have people in law enforcement with no experience do the job. Please tell me how they came up with the decision that they did. Then Hull puts in the paper best man for the job. What are his qualifications that make him the best man for the job.Living in sisseton is not a qualification.
Hulls reason for best man for the job"he is a nice young man" his words.I guess other guys were old and mean. And croymans and his city crew is going to start working at the sheriffs office to help Tasa out.Croymans back to work for the county Just frickin GREAT.And they wonder why the sheriffs office are laughed at by other dept.
Answer to your question, I ask what are Tasas qualifications? Hull said and I quote" Hes a nice young man and will make a good sheriff" I ask if he knew he would be short of help amd hes not even firearms certified and no LE training Hull Said" City guys have alresdy said they will help him" So those of you that said Croymans was behind this all with Hull and Horton were right!!!!! I concede to you. Claudia
No not old and mean just smart and wont be a boy for 1 and another certified was native so knocked u 2 out. They wanted a boy and they bought him. I feel bad for Tasa but if hes letting Croymans in the door he derserves all he gets and that will be no trust no respect!!! Thanks Claudia for being the one to always put up with those fools and how they treat you but we out here appeciate you and those Idiots dont count so hang in for us that are working and cant get there. Porky PS You should really have fun in Pierre next week with this fiasco. FUNNY!!!!!!
So get the jackasses out! You know how to do it. Don't you think it's time this county pulled together and did something for once, instead of just talking about it? Do you like having morons for county commissioners? Do you like living in a county that is the laughing stock? Do you really think there will be any qualified, and certified officers jumping to work here? Guess lawsuits are looking better all the time. Going from one "smart" sheriff to another.
Wow!!!!! There r some real dumbass's on this blog. Can't carry a gun? Wrong!! Can't pull anyone over? Wrong!!! Every single comment is false! You losers have to much time on your hands..
sorry you think we are dumbasses but Jay is not state certified to carry a gun for law enforcement. And what is going to do when he pulls someone over with no training that is a good way to get killed.Unless you know the law you need to keep quiet.Nobody is picking on Tasa just pointing out the facts of the job.And unless you are in law enforcement you don't have a clue.
Thanks for backing up the people who try to have their facts straight before posting here. It is appreciated.
Upon being sworn in as Sheriff he has all the powers of the Sheriff. He can get firearms certified anywhere in the state by a certified firearms instructor. He has 1 year to become certified law enforcement officer. In addition he can attend training offered by the Law Enforcement Training Academy, the SD Sheriff's Association and SD Police Chief's Association. He also has 4 former local Sheriff's that can give him advice. They were all professionals and are probably willing to give advice if he asks. Give him a chance, the last 2 did not work out for whatever reasons, maybe some public support instead instead of criticism would help the transition.
Been there done that, 30+ years in law enforcement, including Sheriff.
If you are backing Mr Tasa Sir why not sign yout name so we know it is a trustable LE officer making these statement and not Croymans or one we already know we cant trust which there are a few. Love to have good Officers tell us. We need to know after certified and certifiable by taking the test men applied. We are trying to understand and do not want to beleive Hull and Horton bought a boy but with Croymans wrapped up in it it sure points that way. There were some good lawmen who know the county and have wotk in it. Does he realize what its all about??? We think not, Hes a great family man and he will be giving alot of that timr up to fill in the gaps of coverage.
Nobody is doubting what you are saying about the office. The issue is safety. Yes he can be certified by any firearms instructor. And he will have the powers that go along with the office. But with no training his safety becomes an issue. Yes he can go to the academy and learn what he needs. But the issue is now not later and yes he can ask for help from past sheriffs. But if you were in LE for 30 yrs you know how the trust issue goes.To the above poster I agree sign your name because croymans is behind the scenes here working.Jay please distance yourself from croymans because he will bury you,he is not liked in the county. If you prove to the people that you are not commissioners boy and not working with croymans you might get voted back in.I quess time will tell.
Mr. Tassa if you would please come on here and introduce yourself. Everyone feels that you are a good person and good family man.No one is doubting that but are concerned about your qualifications. If you would come on here to try and stop the rumors going on.Tells us what your plans are. Are you going to have Croymans working at the jail with you? People have a lot of questions? If you could answer them maybe we could stop all the speculation and rumors going on.The problem we have had in the past is lack of communication. The success of the office is talking to the public and hearing there problems. Just let us know.I for one have questions. I am willing to give you the chance you deserve but we need to hear from you.
Well now I know who Tasa os well where he lives any way. Oh ya hes a Croymans man he had his signs in his yard at election time also see Croymans there alot. Someone just told me where he lives and im at pizza hut alot for kids and their friends so now I know for sure Croymans is pudhing this, will Tom McClelland be far behind?? Not if our infamous cheif of police has any thing to say which am sure he will. Back to the good ole boys thinking depends if you kiss a--, not if you are quailified. Well we only have to suffer thru it till next year then out with the 5 village Idiots, Jims buddies the Sattlers and get a Sheriff that the voters want. We can clean out all 7 of them in one yr. Dont anyone tell us again Dawn changed, she layed in the weeds with Hull till they got the chance to put baby boy Croymans back in mix. That knocks Tasa out in my books. You can tell a man by his friends. You lay with dogs and you get fleas Croymans is a dog and Tasa icthing!!!!!!! Mike
In response to Anonymous on August 8th @ 2:57. If Chad Ward actually told you that the Jail is paying 95% of it’s own way, I think he had better check his numbers. The Jail and Sheriff's Dept. have approximately 20 full time employees with an average salary of $20,000.00 w/out benefits that would be an annual payroll of $400,000.00 per year. I don't think that Mr. Ward is depositing $31,666.66 dollars (95% of $400,000.00) per month with the Auditor, and this amount is only reflective of the full time employee's annual payroll and does not take into account part-time employee's wages, utilities, insurance, food expenses, and maintenance.
I would like to see accurate information about the income of Jail versus expense, not some crazy notion that the Jail is 95% self funded. I would like to hear from Mr. Ward on this matter, because if he made this statement I would like to see it justified.
In response to Anonymous on August 10, @8:45 AM: Let's get out the facts. Vince Owen came to the County Commissioners and tendered his resignation. Mr. Owen of his own accord came to the Commission and turned in his resignation, it was not asked for by the Commission, Mr. Owen further asked if he could receive the $20,000.00 severance package that the Commissioners had offered previously ( formerly known by Mr. Owen as the bribe money) and the Commissioners accepted his resignation.
Vince Owen quit, resigned, left, turned down, failed to fulfill, or whatever term you want to use, his position as Roberts County Sheriff. Why are you 7 or so bloggers so insistent on trying to glorify Vince Owen, he quit it's that simple.
Vince is praised for standing up to the Commissioners: if you consider standing up to them, threatening to do them bodily harm, calling them profane names during meetings, refusing to comply with the same personal policy’s as all other county employee's. The County Commissioners have made many mistakes along the way, but for the people in the community to continue to embrace Vince Owen is just short of crazy.
The County Commissioners were forced to appoint another Sheriff due to the resignation of Vince Owen, and they have chosen Jay Tasa as the new Sheriff. I have read many comments about Mr. Tasa and his qualifications or lack of the same, but I think the one qualification that he has that none of the other candidates had is the fact that he did not work under the Vince Owen administration. Think about it!!! The County Commissioners had to appoint a Sheriff when Gary Gaikowski stepped down; they interviewed several candidates and appointed a highly experienced Vince Owen. What did they get?
1) Threatened to have their bones broke.
2) Called profane names during public meetings.
3) Sexual Harassment suit filed against County.
4) A Labor Department Law Suit filed against County.
5) His failure to comply with the Personal Policies that ALL other County offices adhere to.
6) Operating expenses that exceeded anyone’s wildest imagination.
This is what the County Commissioners received via the appointment of Mr. Owen.
The County Commissioners are now faced wit appointing a new Sheriff and they chose Mr. Tasa and everyone is up in arms wondering WHY? I know Orville, Chris, and Travis all of whom I think are great guys, but come on if you had been a County Commissioner subject to the Vince Owen administration would you have appointed someone from that administration or would you have voted for someone from the outside.
I applaud the County Commissioners for doing what needed to be done!!! I wish Sheriff Tasa all of the best and would hope that all voters of the county do the same!!!!
Above post is too stupid and wrong its not worth responding to!!! Sounds so like Crotmans or Duwayne Sattler ot other of their mentallity. Every thing false as usual out of the mouyh of that clan. Patting the 3 now 5 Village Idiots on the back,, easy to see whos doing it and thinking we are dumb enough to beleive in any thing those Commiss do or say!!!! You are kidding of course. Thanks for the laugh for the day. Makes for good joke at work.
At least Anonymous 2:13 am's post is well written, and contains very few grammar or spelling errors. Half of the posts on this blog are so crappy, I can't understand what they are trying to say.
So if its well written its true??? Ya right!!!! Rather read misspelled truths than well written lies thank you!!!!!!!
So 9:52, what is they lie? explain yourself! Funny how nobody has any answers..
If you have read at all its been explained in depth nunerous times. The commissioners bought a boy whos friends with Croymans. If you live out in county or are native you know how Croymans and Mc Clelland treated us all. No LE experiance and taking his orders from Croylmans Hull,Horton and now we hear Helwig is in on it too. That should tell you all you need to know. People who know Owen know why he left the rest dont count cause you know it was written by some of them cause they failed to tell you against Vince all were unfoundned the remaining one is commissioners having a part in their policy book that goes against state law which over rides any County "law" they are just to dumb and arrogant to check with their States Attorney as they think they know it all. Mike
I love how none of you can address the content of the 2:13am post, because it's true. Chad I would love for you to say that the jail is paying 95% of it's own way anywhere other than the blog. Call the Watertown PO and tell them!!! Not going to happen becasue it's not true. It's also very funny (sad really) would you make fun of them because they sould like they actaully went to school and can write!!!
Come on Chad, cowboy up and answer the question from 2:13 AM. And Claudia, you don't even speak for 5% of this county. You've kissed the ass of every Sheriff since you came here and I suspect you know that this Sheriff isn't going to play your petty games with you so you need to go into attack mode. Vince Owen couldn't be to smart if he let you control him. This is a fight your not going to win! If ld you had any smarts at all you would stop while you still have that 5% support.
I think it's time to quit all the name calling. And if you work for the sheriff's office to all bond together and try to make this transision as easy as possible for everyone involved. It seems to me like everyone is quarrelling when they should be trying to make this easy for the new sheriff coming in. You don't have to like each other but everyone should try and be professional about this. There should be no bashing of previous sheriff's they are no longer here and they shouldn't concern us anymore. We need to all help RC to stop being the laughing stock of the state. Everyone just needs to grow up and shut up and work together.
A county jail ISN’T put up' to make money. If you have ever seen the old jail- it was a lawsuit waiting to happen. The CC can be as upset as they want about what this jail costs- but it is there and needs to be run. They, themselves, voted the new jail in back when Moen was sheriff. I don't think anyone realizes that if they run the jail into the ground- there are still going to be prisoners that need to be held there. The jail is making money and progress- they have many contracts ranging from holding juveniles for DOC and the Tribe to holding and transporting US Marshall prisoners.
To all of you who think you know me or what I do, I sign my mane when I post. Yes I have a past and have never hid it. I do not kiss a-- and people who know me know that. I have nothing against Sheriff Tasa, I do not know him so I dont have a set opinion. People who I know and trust say hes a good man and thats good enough for me. Every one deserves a chance. Please dont be speaking for me because you are way off base. Just because I respect law enforetment and get along with many of them does'nt make me a kiss a--. The county and city officers have all been helpful to me and Dr. Peterson with the ordeals we have been thru. I am the Governess for her son and was for her daughter. So with that said I will answer no more pettiness. Claudia
Tasa will make $45,000 after he is certified. Thought the county was broke.
Ok....Ok….O….KAY!!!! oops… Lost my train of thought….LMAO
Now it’s my turn to say something, since the ppl reading this blog and want to type what they seem to know sooooooooooo much about me and I guess I “burn bridges”, isn’t that what one of you chicken shit’s stated???? Then I guess, I’ll burn this bitch to the ground!! I’ve sat here for three weeks and said nothing bad about the staff or the sheriff’s office and I left quietly. However, here’s the bottom line…..and if you don’t like it, come to my front porch and tell me bout it and I’ll be more than happy to assist you with your dilemma.
I left the sheriff’s office for the simple fact that I could not work with a deputy/acting sheriff that didn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground. For nearly two years, I watched a deputy sit on their duff and not do a thing, except maybe looking at my timesheets. Speaking of timesheets, why was I the only deputy that had to justify my time, I don’t remember the deputy or acting sheriff having justifications on their timesheets. How many squads did you break?? Oh that’s right, according to a commissioner mtg., “if those damn Indian deputies would quit wrecking our patrol units”…..(in all my time as a cop, never had a squad car, blow an engine at 78 mph going to a 911 call) guess I would buy police package cars, not Brooks Motors specials or let a horse run into my squad twice.
While on leave and began to hear how that certain deputy/acting sheriff was running their mouth at the office about me being on funeral leave burying his child, but at least it wasn’t a stroke. Therefore, I confronted that deputy about it and not even the next day; that deputy ran their mouth once again, evidently that deputy is like some of the ppl that read/type on this blog, they only understand a good beating, but then again, that deputy/acting sheriff probably wouldn’t learn even after falling down while I was trying to assist them in getting up…
FYI….here’s how such a great job that deputy/acting sheriff was doing at their job. First, while on leave a fatal traffic collision occurred and that deputy/acting sheriff that is doing such a “great job” couldn’t even check a vehicle under water to see if there was a person inside and the “kicker” of the story is that; a certain tow service owner (puppy) had to do their job and release/remove the deceased from the vehicle because they might throw u???? wtf!!!!!!! If any other law enforcement officer had done that in ANY agency, they would have been terminated immediately for dereliction of duties.
Another “wondrous” thing that the “great job” deputy/acting sheriff was respond to an incident, involving a weapon (gun), then show up to that call, without their duty weapon on their person….FYI….do that at a bigger agency and you’d be terminated. Evidently that deputy missed that class at the police academy, even MP school????? And I’m pretty sure at AIT they told them that ppl may just shoot bullets back at you.....
Here are some other things that you don’t do as an acting sheriff/deputy… Hire ppl without following procedures…like getting them sworn in by a circuit court judge…hmm…I don’t know…I’m pretty sure that’s a state law..; and/or then put an uncertified law enforcement officer on patrol without being sworn in by a judge (see the judge gives you the authority to enforce state law, kind of a MUST) and/or FTO (field training)...and/or have patrol units clearly marked with 360 degrees of lighting (another state law)…...WOW!!!!!….Can you say vicarious liability lawsuit????… FYI…24hr. shifts are illegal under FEDERAL Labor Laws, so you may just want to eliminate that type of shift, oh that rights…you don’t work any of your shift….LOL Also, when the deputy/acting sheriff would leave the area, you need to use the Chain of Command (i.e. Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Deputy, etc.) not just disappear to some mysterious training, plus if gone for more than five days, your squad must be left at the office, not at your residence with the keys left in a public access area, and the seven to ten day notice (does that even exist)? I couldn’t find that guideline in the employee handbook, the deputy/acting sheriff must have the only copy in the entire county. But I’m sure as deputy/acting sheriff, that person would know the handbook inside and out.
Evidently the commissioners or deputy/acting sheriff of Roberts County didn’t care if they get sued. Better hope the family of the deceased, from the traffic collision don’t find out…no statue of limitations there, only need negligence in a case like that.
Now even though, I don’t owe any ppl reading this blog any type of explanation, I will tell you this…. I worked nearly 2500 hrs. for the sheriff’s office, in my 19 months there. (that’s 1 and half jobs) In fact, when my daughter died, I came back to work, because a certain deputy/acting sheriff had to attend training. I logged more DUI/Drug, fatalities, reports, etc.; than a certain deputy/acting sheriff, mentioned above, so much that maybe in the next two years, if they get off their duff may catch up to my case load. Oh wait, have you even seen what the courtroom looks like??? Once, sorry I forgot, that was after a certain deputy/acting sheriff had to rewrite a report…LOL. That certain deputy/acting would know that if they left the sheriff’s office and patrolled at least 8 hrs. of their shift, instead of being told by dispatchers to go do something. It’s pretty sad when all the agencies within the county’s boundaries know your work habits. FYI……Centerville, SD is always hiring or maybe Sioux Falls PD………LMAO
So bloggers, Nay Sayers, or village idiots, PLEASE keep cutting me down on this site/blog, because it’s fun to see/read ppl talking shit, when they can’t say it to your face, kind of like some employees. But then again, if you go to the library in Sisseton, you may be able to hear everything that goes on at the sheriff’s office??? (at least, that’s what was told to me, in person, not behind closed doors) By the way, I also understand that I cut a certain deputy/acting sheriff down while ppl “were in the building???” (here’s an idea, listen in more on the PA system at the jail or call certain ppl and let them know who’s in jail during your shift or tell which family members have warrants, oh wait…you already do that, huh?) I wouldn’t say something, I wouldn’t say to their face, it’s call ALPHA personality, what the field of law enforcement attracts….you moron!!!
Oh yeah….here’s some other things I didn’t do for the sheriff’s office, because; what was it?; one of you village idiots stated…”I like to be in charge”?? And that is the REAL reason, according to your comment on this blog, I left the sheriff’s office….hmmm…NEWS TO ME, Hell, I even had to go ask my old Lt., he couldn’t remember that about me, but maybe the moron that stated that on this blog, knows more about me than I DO….
When Sheriff Owen brought me to the sheriff’s office, I was told to help in any way possible, so I did. I helped him apply for grants that amounted over 300k for 3 new deputies and 83k for new patrol units with the US Dept. of Justice. I also helped him apply for new vests for the deputies, in which all received them (BVP Partnership USBOJ; 1,800). I even applied for assistance with the United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association for new equipment, another 25k. Hell, the night of my last day, I even applied for new RADAR systems for the squad cars (SD LLBG/DOJ; 2,500). But yeah, your right, I did these things because I wanted to be in charge……??? You village idiot, ITS CALLED PROFESSIONALISM, maybe you can “google it.”
The only reason I applied for interim sheriff, along with other deputies, is for the simple fact, that the sheriff’s office needs a leader and a TEAM player. Sheriff Owen, Mr. Ward and other WORKING deputies are all for TEAMWORK (aka: Roberts County Sheriff’s Office). FYI…I was the only certified law enforcement officer and minority with adequate training that applied, but then from what Commissioner Hull stated, the “nice guy” got the position, hmm…..guess the commissioners really like the SD Sheriff’s Association and SD Peace Officer’s Association, huh? Now I heard this saying before, but appears to me that someone doesn’t like Native Americans or certified police officers????, but wait; “it’s not racial.” (Yep pretty sure that was told to another SWO tribal member/ SHERIFF in commissioner mtgs.)
Mr. Tasa, I wish you the best of luck at the position of sheriff, it’s going to take a lot of man hours to get things straight. The problem with the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office is; they had a sheriff for over 20 years and never had to change, but guess what…its been over twenty years and time has changed, law enforcement has now become a profession and not just going out and hiring the biggest, baddest dude on the block, then hiring him to be a cop.
Mr. Tasa if you keep a FAIR but FIRM policy in your new law enforcement career, you’ll retire a happy man. However, if you play follow the leader; you’ll not gain the respect of your colleagues. Trust me; they are the ones going save your rear end, not the voters, on that call at 4am.
Here’s something to think about bloggers…ever checked to see how many natives are being arrested by a Chief of Police and ever wondered how many excessive force complaints have been logged against a certain agency in Roberts County. Isn’t it funny, that Commissioners were telling ppl at a Tuesday meeting that the Sisseton Police Dept. was going to assist the Sheriff’s Office, when we could barely get them to do traffic control at the Sisseton exit on I-29, hmm? oh that’s right, those were Indian deputies asking for assistance…..hmm???
Best of luck to you all at Roberts County, SD, and I ain’t bitter, I just don’t give a FUNK!!!!!

I can not beleive one Deputy would say the above posts about another! Where is being professional. The man stepped up and did what Owen taught him when we needed him to. We can see why hes still there. Are you a sore loser because you were not chosen??????
Good Job, Chris, people really needed to hear the side of a Professional Law Officer. The person that does all those comments,STILL doesn't have the gutts to sign their name. Run your mouth and say absolutely nothing. I think it is sad that the lady who is a dispatcher gets away with giving information on who is in jail and who isn't. Seems to me she got fired from her last job for her Loose Lips!!Guess maybe a law suit is what should be done to Commissioners, etc. I can't believe that the acting Sheriff couldn't remove a body from a car accident, and this is a person you are suppose to respect. I believe I might just have to check this family out and give them the information they need so they can proceed with a lawsuit.
I don't believe Chris is a sore loser, he finally set the RECORD straight. GOOD JOB, Chris.
FYI A Sheriffs job is 90% in the office the other 10% serving papers that Deputys cant serve and doing auctions. After mail, phone calls, papers, people bitching at them about their deputys or what some stupid commissioners have said. Lawyers and Judges yelling a Dheriff does not have time nor should he be out patroling. Thats what deputys are for!!!!!! If I need back up I want some one like Deputy Travis Or Vince Owen!!!!! I sure cont want one that trashes another, they cant be trusted.
Good luck with that!!! One took off out the back door and the other.....well...
How dumb are some of you? Chris Seaboy is the laughing stock of law enf. He confirmed with his rubbish that the Sheriffs office was a mess under the Owen adm. He confirmed other officers wouldn't give him the time of day. He confirmed he's a back stabber. What more do you dummies need? I love the comment on the other blog about him.
Actually Chris was talking about the Long reign and we all know how that was!! Nothing was done, not even housekeeping.
Well Miss Anonymous, How many times did Chris save your old gossipy butt? This blog is really sad, all the bashing you do of each other. Owens, was Chris's cousin--How is that for you old bag!!
